Everyone is better than you ey?
With Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, blogs, websites, TV, magazines, newspapers etc it is hard to not be bombarded with images which trigger an instant feeling of missing out, jealousy or feeling as though your not quite good enough.
I was following a whole bunch of yoga girls, trainers and other hell men and women who are strong, lean, fast, flexible and gorgeous! They are all living on tropical islands, scooting off to fashion week and working out in designer gear. Its enough to make you sick!
While the images are amazing and the people impressive, I was searching for motivation and in the end felt deflated, overwhelmed and shit about myself!
I think this is common feeling. “So-and-so is thinner, hair is better, skin clearer, teeth whiter, bum bigger, curves better.” “Old mate is taller, richer, stronger.” The list could go on and on! We are never happy with what we have.
Behind closed doors, we all have the same self doubts, comparisons and bullshit going on in the deep dark recesses of our mind!
So why don’t we just give up then? If there is always going to be someone “hotter”, “richer”, more “intelligent” or more “successful” than us…. ?
We don’t give up because in that chatter, we know that we all have something to offer. Deep down, i think we all realise that we have something great to offer out there in the world. Our individual cocktail of strengths and weaknesses makes each of us far more valuable that we might realise.
At the end of the day we have to become the best version of ourselves! Finding inspiration in others is great. Finding motivation is great. But comparing yourself and allowing negative self talk to take over is toxic.
MY TIPS TO BEAT FITNESS #FOMO
1: ACCEPT – Accept yourself! If you are 5″4′ …. Like me you will never, ever have legs like Miranda Kerr. Get over it. Why do you want hers anyway!? You have legs that are, most likely serving you well. Be grateful for them.
2: SWEAT – There is no better feeling than getting stronger or faster! Losing weight is awesome if that is your goal but being able to do something that you couldn’t do a few weeks earlier really is an amazing and rewarding feeling!
3: EAT WELL – A healthy diet is the difference between toxicity and vitality. Eating more fruit and veg and drinking more water really is the trick for increased energy, clear thinking and a more vibrant life.
4: LEARN– Learn more about yourself. If your back hurts, find out why and what you can do about it. If you get stressed or angry and cant control it, learn why. If you have constant negative thoughts, find a professional to help you work through your feelings.
Even a more traditional route of learning is valuable. Continue your education forever. Do a short course in something you love – singing, paining, wood work, bird watching. Whatever floats your boat. Whatever makes you feel happy!
Weight, fitness, money, happiness and love can come and go. Ebb and flow. You are not defined by your body fat %, nor your ability to make and spend money. Find things, people and places that inspire you, that fuel your passion and get rid of anything that is holing you back or keeping you stuck in a rut.
Treat people well and do what you need to do to feel happy, content, loved and appreciated when you head to bed each night!
